Tai Calon was established in 2010 as a not-for-profit housing association, with almost 6,000 homes we are the largest provider of affordable homes in Blaenau Gwent. With more than 280 people trained and dedicated to their job, we’re a big employer in the area. Due to growth, we’re looking for a Fire Safety and Compliance Manager to join our Health, Safety and Compliance Team.

 

About You:

To be successful as a Fire Safety and Compliance Manager, the ideal candidate will

Your Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications:

You will also need to have the following knowledge, experience and qualifications

  • Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety or Equivalent
  • Associate or Member of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (MIFSM)
  • In-depth understanding of health and safety legislation, Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) and guidance and its practical application.
  • Knowledge of leasehold requirements, engagement, consultations
  • Previous experience in management within a similar environment and responsibility for the delivery of elements of fire safety and compliance.
  • Experience in developing and delivering compliance programmes and projects to include improvements, cyclical, planned and/or development activities.
  • Experience of procurement processes and procedures and contract management
  • People management experience with proven ability to motivate and achieve good performance.
  • Experience in the development and delivery of training programmes
  • Experience in legal compliance and risk management in health and safety

 

What you’ll be doing:

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Fire Safety and Compliance Manager to join our Health, Safety and Compliance team at Tai Calon. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the safety and compliance of our properties as you lead workplace health and safety projects. As a member of the Health, Safety and Compliance Team you will be instrumental in overseeing the delivery of a range of safety training, policies, and projects to ensure the highest standards of safety across the business.


You will lead a customer-focused team, driving collaboration and delivering excellent outcomes across all areas of health and safety. Your leadership will support the planning and management of a five-year corporate plan that aligns with legal, tenant, and business requirements. You will also work closely with the Health, Safety and Compliance Manager to control budgets, ensuring value for money, and supporting the business in meeting its long-term goals. This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape the safety culture within Tai Calon and make a real impact on the communities we serve.

For a more detailed overview of what you will be doing, our Fire Safety and Compliance Manager will take ownership of

  • Acting as a subject matter expert taking the lead role in developing and ensuring compliance with Fire Safety, Legionella etc. and related procedures.
  • Overseeing and delivering planned and reactive compliance tasks to ensure that Tai Calon maintains health and safety compliance across the organisation.
  • Monitoring changes in legislation and guidance and the requirements of regulatory and enforcement agencies in health and safety. Advise the Health, Safety and Compliance Manager and other managers as required, of the implications of changes for Tai Calon.
  • Assisting in the development and review of policies and procedures to timescale. Ensuring they all have a comprehensive implementation plan, including promotions, training, e-learning, and monitoring on relevant systems.
  • Providing and ensuring the team provide, timely and high-quality advice to the wider organisation on health and safety issues which meets all regulatory, legislative, and contractual obligations.
  • Carrying out, robust investigations, reviews and monitoring against health and safety standards in both a planned and reactive manner.
  • Ensuring any actions arising from audits, investigations, reviews, and monitoring are followed up to completion.
  • Facilitating and encouraging engagement with relevant health and safety activities across the organisation through briefings, presentation, training and eLearning etc.
  • Working proactively with colleagues across the business to manage risks, minimise Health and Safety incidents, and ensure that lessons learnt are fully and properly embedded.
  • Ensuring effective contract and project management systems are in place, including maintaining a robust set of standard contract documentation.
  • Assisting the Health, Safety and Compliance Manager in formulating evidence-based programmes, projects, activities, budgets, and financial and communication plans.
  • Working in partnership with colleagues, tenants, and residents to improve local service delivery within communities and ensure that the service meets individual and community needs.
  • Working closely with the centralised procurement team to ensure effective procurement of work programmes.
  • Ensuring that Tai Calon acts appropriately and responsibly and meets all legal obligations and service standards for planning and delivery activities.

Permanent

 

Working Pattern:

You will work 37 hours per week from Monday to Friday.

You will also be eligible for our Flexi Time scheme, with most colleagues working their hours between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.

 

Where You'll Be Working:

This role offers Hybrid Working, where you’ll be able to work from home. For the days that you're in the office, we've got a bright, open and modern space for you to catch up with colleagues and work from. 

This role will also require you to work out in the community, visiting Tai Calon properties across Blaenau Gwent.
