Job Description

Tai Calon was established in 2010 as a not-for-profit housing association, with almost 6,000 homes we are the largest provider of affordable homes in Blaenau Gwent. Our focus is to deliver high levels of customer satisfaction in all aspects of the service that we offer. Part of that is to ensure our customers’ homes meet the Welsh Housing Quality Standards, and that is why since 2010 we have invested over £130 million in their homes.

With more than 280 people trained and dedicated to their jobs, we’re a big employer in the area. Due to growth within the team, we’re looking for a Health, Energy and Engagement Officer to join our Assets, Sustainability and Healthy Homes Team.

 

About You:

To be successful as a Health, Energy and Engagement Officer, the ideal candidate will

  • Have good written and verbal communication skills.

Your Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications:

You will also need to have the following knowledge, experience and qualifications

  • Educated to Level 3 of the National Qualification Framework for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
  • Knowledge of the Welsh Housing Quality Standard 2023 and its impact on Tai Calon.
  • Knowledge of the Social Housing Sector in Wales.
  • Experience of working closely with customers, gaining their trust and providing them with accurate and timely information.
  • Experience of advising on the benefits of planned and energy efficiency measures.
  • Demonstratable experience of working to Tai Calon’s Values.

 

What you’ll be doing:

As our Health, Energy, and Engagement Officer, you will be the link between residents and the support they need, building trust and delivering tailored services that make a real difference.

You’ll drive improvements in homes, using data to ensure our activities deliver the maximum benefits for both customers and Tai Calon. By working closely with residents, colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders, you’ll help create healthier, more energy-efficient homes and guide customers in accessing the full range of Energy and Health services available.

Through your work across the Housing, Energy, and Health sectors, you’ll also explore and implement best practices to ensure our projects deliver lasting impact for residents and their families.

For a more detailed overview of what you will be doing, our Health, Energy and Engagement Officer will take ownership of

  • Taking the lead role in positively engaging and negotiating with residents, both individually and in groups, along with a wide range of stakeholders, to ensure the effective delivery of major projects and works programmes.
  • Understanding sufficient technical and financial information about the project or work programme in hand to provide effective technical support to residents, colleagues and third parties to facilitate effective delivery.
  • Providing tailored information and advice in relation to the project or work programme, positively influencing residents to engage and to find solutions to queries or objections.
  • Working closely with colleagues in Tai Calon to ensure the effective delivery of our Energy and Health aspirations via our improvement projects and our internal environmental monitoring capabilities.
  • Liaising with customers on our planned investment programmes, providing them with guidance and support and supporting the successful delivery of projects.
  • Gaining the support and trust of customers, ensuring that access is gained to their homes for the delivery of improvement projects.
  • Advising customers on the benefits of the improvements being made, and how these may be optimised by them.
  • Supporting and educating customers, helping them to reduce their energy costs and live in more healthy homes.
  • Working across the sector, understanding and implementing best practices in supporting residents to reduce their energy costs.
  • Being the Tai Calon expert in providing energy and health advice and support to customers.
  • Working closely with the Health & Energy Data Officer to understand potential issues and emerging trends and effectively meet these challenges
  • Working closely with Contract Delivery Officers and Project Managers to understand their contractors' and customers' concerns and to work with Housing and other colleagues to effectively overcome these issues.
  • Acting as a customer advocate ensuring their concerns are recognised and addressed
  • Supporting the Decarbonisation & Sustainability manager to deliver the organisation's decarbonisation targets as set out in its corporate plan and by Welsh Government regulatory requirements.

Permanent

 

Working Pattern:

You will work 37 hours per week from Monday to Friday.

You will also be eligible for our Flexi Time scheme, with most colleagues working their hours between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.

 

Where You'll Be Working:

This role offers Hybrid Working, where you’ll be able to work from home. For the days that you're in the office, we've got a bright, open and modern space for you to catch up with colleagues and work from. 

This role will also require you to work out in the community, visiting Tai Calon properties across Blaenau Gwent.
