Tai Calon was established in 2010 as a not-for-profit housing association, with almost 6,000 homes we are the largest provider of affordable homes in Blaenau Gwent. With more than 280 people trained and dedicated to their jobs, we’re a big employer in the area. Due to growth within our Assets, Sustainability and Healthy Homes team, we’re looking for a Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Manager to join us.

Your Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications:

You will also need to have the following knowledge, experience and qualifications

  • Educated to Level 6 of the National Qualification Framework for England, Wales and Northern Ireland in a Quantity Surveying related discipline.
  • Membership of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, Chartered Institute of Building or other relevant professional body.
  • Extensive knowledge of all technical aspects of asset management and capital property improvement projects, including relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrable in-depth knowledge of building contracts and their administration.
  • Knowledge of the Social Housing sector.
  • Previous Quantity Surveying/Commercial Management experience.
  • Proven experience of delivering commercial value within an asset’s environment.
  • Extensive experience in commercial and contract management.
  • People management experience with proven ability to motivate and achieve good performance.
  • Experience of managing external consultants and Contractors with proven ability to motivate and achieve good performance.
  • Significant experience of budget setting, performance management and control.

 

What you’ll be doing:

As our Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Manager, you will be at the forefront of delivering impactful investment programmes that enhance homes and communities.

With line management responsibility for two project managers and their teams, you’ll use your expertise in budget management, project controls, and people leadership to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. You will oversee the financial health of Planned Investment and Decarbonisation Projects, providing accurate forecasts and ensuring that all initiatives deliver maximum value for money.

For a more detailed overview of what you will be doing, our Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Manager will take ownership of

  • Providing commercial and contract management leadership for investment projects.
  • Developing and maintaining a culture of commercial awareness.
  • Ensuring adherence to contract management arrangements and protecting Tai Calon’s commercial interests.
  • Ensuring effective contract and project management systems are in place, including maintaining a robust set of standard contract documentation.
  • Preparing, monitoring, and controlling revenue and capital budgets and external contract programmes, including appraising contract options and reviewing brief specifications and tender documents.
  • Ensuring that tender and contract documentation is fit for purpose and is in line with industry best practice and implementation.
  • Ensuring that all tendering and contractual arrangements comply with financial regulations, contract procedures and statutory requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulation, recommending changes to policies and procedures as required.
  • Managing the costing, budgets and contractual relationships of all projects within the Assets, Sustainability and Healthy Homes Team.

Permanent

 

Working Pattern:

You will work 37 hours per week from Monday to Friday.

You will also be eligible for our Flexi Time scheme, with most colleagues working their hours between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.

This role offers Hybrid Working, where you’ll be able to work from home.
