Your Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications
You will also need to have the following knowledge, experience and qualifications
• Educated to level 4 national qualification framework.or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of up to date legislation.
• Substantial knowledge of recovery processes and legal action.
• Knowledge of welfare benefits.
• Experience within similar role and responsibilities.
• Experience using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Experience using Northgate or similar management system.
What you’ll be doing
Our Income Team Leader will lead their team to ensure that we collect and maximise income in line with Tai Calon’s recovery and financial inclusion policies and sustain tenancies.
As an Income Team Leader you’ll take ownership to:
• Responsible for managing and leading your team in the collection and recovery of income.
• Lead on housing benefit regulations, welfare reform regulations, appeals, discretionary housing payments and special projects within this area of expertise.
• Oversee and ensure robust pre tenancy financial assessment and advice service and continue providing this service to tenants throughout the tenancy.
• Review and prepare cases for repossession proceedings and eviction, complying with recovery procedures and pre court protocol.
• Represent Tai Calon at County Court, give evidence in summary for possession actions, applications to suspend evictions or vary possession orders for rent arrears and ASB, attend evictions with the County Court bailiffs and control the security of the property.
• Develop working partnerships with external partners such as housing benefits, DWP and Supporting People and ensure the necessary support referrals into these services are being made.
• Assist in implementing income recovery procedures and system processes, giving regard to best practice.
• Assist in the new year rent increase process liaising closely with Finance and IT, testing and ensuring that the correct rent and service charges are raised.
• Assist in the safe and secure cash handling, reconciliation and banking procedures mitigating the risks of income loss, theft and staff vulnerability.
• Provide support, advice and assistance to the team with rent arrear cases, housing management, health and safety, case direction or safeguarding matters.
• Take the lead within the team on housing benefit regulations, welfare reform regulations, appeals, discretionary housing payments and special projects within this area of expertise.
• To embed an advice and support service to tenants on a range of benefits, discounts and funding to ensure maximisation of their income. To challenge benefit decisions and support tenants with Appeals, requiring extensive knowledge of the benefit system.
• Regularly review individual rent and other service charge accounts ensuring that policy and procedures are being adhered to and tenants are contacted effectively regarding non-payment issues
• To attend County Court and present rent arrear cases, dealing with legal challenge and making on the spot decisions that have a significant impact on tenants.
• To organise and maintain clear concise records to be made available for analysis, KPI’s and data quality checks.
• Provide information to the Housing and Income Manager for ad-hoc reports assisting in the development of services.

As an Income Team Leader, you will work 37 hours per week.
