Tai Calon was established in 2010 as a not-for-profit housing association, with almost 6,000 homes we are the largest provider of affordable homes in Blaenau Gwent. Your Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications:
You will also need to have the following knowledge, experience and qualifications
Qualifications
Educated to level 2 National Qualification Framework for England, Wales and Northern Ireland or willing to work towards
- NPTC cross-cutting, maintenance chainsaw. Felling, processing small or medium trees
- NPTC / LANTRA woodchipper
- NPTC City & Guilds Tree Climbing and Rescue
- NPTC City & Guilds Chainsaw from Rope and Harness
- The following qualifications you will either need to hold, or be willing to work towards
- NPTC / LANTRA brush cutter
- CIEH Manual handling
- Up-to-date first aid certificates
- Sharps awareness Training
- Asbestos awareness Training
- NPTC stump grinder
Knowledge
- Detailed knowledge of environmental issues and relevant experience.
- Interest in natural history
- Knowledge of tree identification and physiology
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of best arboriculture practices, including awareness of tree species, associated common diseases, and equipment use.
- Working knowledge of climbing and rigging kit maintenance and safety inspections in relation to LOLER
Experience
- Experience within a similar role with similar responsibilities
- Experience of carrying out and recording dynamic risk assessments
- Experience of working with statutory, community, voluntary and business sectors.
- Experience of towing trailers and wood chippers and/or willing to undertake training within a reasonable timeframe.
What you’ll be doing:
As our Green Earth Arborist, you’ll be at the heart of keeping Tai Calon’s communities green, safe, and thriving. From shaping and protecting our tree stock to maintaining the spaces our tenants call home, your work will play a vital role in creating vibrant communities across Blaenau Gwent.
This is a role full of variety. One day you might be climbing high to carry out tree surgery, the next using specialist kit like chainsaws, woodchippers or rigging equipment, or working with the team on grass cutting, weed clearance and pesticide application. Whatever’s on your to-do list, you’ll bring a sharp focus on safety, care for the environment, and pride in doing a great job.
You won’t be working in isolation either, as you’ll be part of our Green Earth team, helping to guide and support trainees, placements, and volunteers. You’ll also play a part in shaping how we manage our trees for the future, keeping accurate records, carrying out risk assessments, and staying up to date with the latest best practices in arboriculture.

Contract Type:
Permanent
Working Pattern:
As a Green Earth Arborist, your working pattern will be;
- Monday to Thursday - 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
- Friday – 8:00 am to 1:00 pm
Where You'll Be Working:
You will be working at outdoor locations across Blaenau Gwent, and you will not be office-based.
You will need to hold a Full UK Driving Licence (or be willing to work towards one in a reasonable timeframe).
